There are various ways of getting data ‘out’ of BriefBuilder. See below for what is possible.
Word report – entire model
You can get a Word report of the entire model by click on the icon on the project homepage (in the upper right corner)
Once you have clicked on the icon, you will get a pop-up in which you can select which parts of the model you want to add to your Word report, and whether you like to include the comments in the model or not.
Depending on the size of the model, it may take some time to download the report. You can find the report in the download folder of your computer.
Word report – per tree
Word reports can be generated for each of the trees in BriefBuilder by clicking on the icon that can be found in the little menu above the tree.

The tabular overviews in BriefBuilder (which can be found in the navigation menu under ‘overviews’) can all be exported to Excel.
In each of the overviews, you can a small icon, right next to the overview’s name. If you click on that icon, you will get an Excel download of that particular overview.
Depending on the size of the overview, it may take some time to download the file. You can find the file in the download folder of your computer.
XML or JSON exports
BriefBuilder’s XML and JSON exports are export for the ‘pros’, so to say. Both are formats that can be used for importing BriefBuilder data into other applications.
These exports are often used for the linking of BriefBuilder data to design data in Revit or other BIM applications. They can also be used as a starting point for generative or parametric design processes.
To get these reports, you have go to the overview of projects (you can get there by clicking on the BriefBuilder logo, or by clicking on ‘project management’ in the menu in the upper right corner of your screen).
The export button () can be found behind the project name. See image below.
Version changes reports
Version changes reports (also known as ‘diff reports’) are Word reports that show the differences (data that have been modified, added or deleted) between two project versions.
These reports can be generated at project management page that lists all your projects (to go there, simply click on the BriefBuilder logo).
Behind each project version, you can see a compare button (). If you click on that, you will get a Word report that shows the differences between this version and another version of the project (sometimes also referred to as base-lining).
You will be able to find the “diff report” in the download folder of your computer. This report can be quite extensive, but it also very useful in communicating the changes that have been made in between two versions.
In the Word report, deleted data is marked in red, new data in green, and modified data in een yellow.
